Full Itinerary

On this tour you will get a better understanding of the Faroese people and learn about the culture from a local perspective. Discover how tradition meets modernity on the tiny green islands in the middle of the vast Atlantic Ocean. Learn about the society and recent history as we stroll through the twisted streets and alleys of the City Centre.

Together we will experience the hidden gems in Tórshavn. We also visit one of the best view points in the city. You will have plenty of opportunities to take Instagram-worthy pictures and ask any questions you might have along the way.

Our tour commences at the marina in Vágsbotnur, where the old warehouses greet the tall ships, they used to service. The tour continues to the characteristic and charming red governmental houses at nearby Tinganes and takes us through the old city – full of stories and atmosphere. We take unexpected turns through neighbourhoods with old timber houses that just ooze of intimacy, perseverance, and ingenuity, as you experience the old-world charm and green refuges of calm amongst the urban sprawls of modern-day life.

Learn of the swift transformation from peasant to modern society made possible by learning to exploit the opportunities of the rich fishing grounds in the North Atlantic. Omnipresent, the sea is still the basis of today’s modern society.

Another significant feature is the welfare system aligned with the Nordic Welfare Model. The model, emphasizing a minimum level of equality as well as society-wide risk-sharing and a social safety net, has earned the Faroese the title as some of the happiest people in the world, in line with the other Nordic countries.

So put on your best walking shoes, bring your camera, and get ready for a Faroese adventure! Don’t forget to ask your guide for tips on what else to see, do, and eat in our awesome city.

Do you fancy a “drekkamunn”? To socialize, the Faroese meet for a cup of coffee or tea and most importantly some sweets! On the tour we join in on this tradition and stop by the best bakery in town for a pastry. We conclude the tour at the most charming café in town for a cup of coffee or tea. Stay as long as you like. If you feel like exploring further, your guide is happy to share recommendations for staying in the city and around the islands.
